Cost of Living: In 2007 the Alberta Government published the 2007 Alberta Spatial Price Survey which compares the cost of living in Alberta’s cities. The value of the index was generally established at 100. An index with a value greater than 100 indicates prices higher than the base price. For all commodities Medicine Hat received a rate of 93.3 in 2007 which is down from the 2005 rate of 97.7. Medicine Hat scored 100.7 when considering food indices in 2007. The increase appears to come from Frozen and packaged food and Restaurant Meals. Personal Care Products increased from 95.9 in 2005 to 100.8 in 2007. The cost of clothing saw the largest decrease of 7.6 from 100 to 92.4.
